Welcome to my website! My name is Sadie Smith and I am a senior at the University of Mary Washington. The research you will find on this website is part of a greater web project conducted by the students of Spanish History being instructed this semester by Dr. Allyson Poska.
The class website can be found here. Each student chose a topic relating to an important issue in early modern Spanish history and was assigned to create a blog that would incorporate many disciplines in the discussion of their topic.
I chose from a list the rather broad topic of the impact of contact with the Americas on Spain in the 16th or 17th Centuries. To narrow the focus of my research, I decided to look specifically at the changing religious scene in Spain during the conquest of the Americas before the 1560s Council of Trent.
You can find the beginning of my project here and there are tabs along the top of this site to help navigate my paper and works of art that highlight my subject.
